Why Choose Horse Riding in Jacó?
Jacó combines a long, open beach with forested hills directly behind town. For riders, that means variety in a short distance: firm sand and ocean views on one ride, shaded trails and the sounds of the forest on another. The warm climate allows riding throughout the year, with seasonal adjustments for the waterfall route.
If you already ride at home, a trail ride here is a relaxed way to enjoy a new landscape from a familiar perspective. If you have never ridden, a guided ride is an accessible introduction, because the guide sets the route and the pace.
Guided Trail Riding Compared With a Riding School
It helps to know what our rides are and are not:
- They are guided trail rides. A guide leads the group along a set route and stays with you throughout.
- They are not formal lessons. We do not offer structured riding instruction or arena schooling. Your guide gives practical pointers before and during the ride. If you specifically want lessons, read our page on horseback riding lessons near me.
- The aim is enjoyment and scenery. The focus is on the beach, the jungle and the experience of riding in Costa Rica.
Let us know if you are an experienced rider when you book so we can take that into account when matching horses.

What to Expect During Your Horse Riding Tour
At the ranch your guide confirms your booking, asks about your experience and pairs you with a horse. Once everyone is mounted, the group sets out on the route for your tour. On the Sunset ride you spend the late afternoon on Jacó Beach as the light turns gold. On the Jungle ride you follow rainforest trails along a river flowing to the Pacific. On the seasonal Waterfall ride you travel deeper into the jungle toward a natural waterfall when conditions are suitable. Rides finish back at the ranch.

Tips for Your Horse Riding Adventure
If you ride at home, you may be used to wearing a helmet, jodhpurs and boots. Pack what makes you comfortable, and message us before your ride if you want to know about the safety equipment provided. For everyone else, long trousers or comfortable shorts and closed-toe shoes work well. Remember that the tropical sun is strong even on cloudy days: wear sunscreen and a secure hat, and drink plenty of water. Light rain is common in the green season, so a thin waterproof layer can be handy. For a side-by-side look at routes, read beach vs jungle horseback riding.
