Jacó is the closest full-size beach town to San José and the international airport, roughly a 90-minute drive on the Route 27 highway. That makes it easy to fit a horseback ride into even a short Costa Rica trip. The town sits on a long, open Pacific beach backed by steep, forested hills, so within a few minutes you can move from sand and surf to shaded rainforest trails.

Beach Horseback Riding

Riding on the beach is the experience most visitors picture first: the sound of the surf, wide views up and down the coast, and the forested headlands framing the bay. Our beach riding is part of the Sunset tour, timed for the softer late-afternoon light when the sand has cooled and the heat of the day has passed.

Jungle Horseback Riding

The Exclusive Jungle tour follows natural trails through tropical vegetation beside a river that flows toward the Pacific. It is shorter, shaded and relaxed — a good fit if you are new to riding, travelling with family, or simply want an hour in nature without a long commitment. Birds such as scarlet macaws live in the area, although wildlife is never guaranteed.

Waterfall Horseback Riding

In the right season we offer a two-hour ride through jungle scenery toward a natural waterfall. Water levels and trail conditions change with the weather, so this tour is seasonal and we always confirm conditions before riding. Message us to check availability for your dates.

Sunset Horseback Riding

Jacó faces west over the Pacific, which is why sunsets here are famous. The Sunset tour departs in the late afternoon so you are on the beach as the light changes. Clouds can hide the sun on some evenings, especially in the green season, but the golden-hour light on the beach is beautiful either way.

Rides for Couples, Families and Friends

Couples usually choose the Sunset tour for the photos and the atmosphere. Families with younger or first-time riders often prefer the one-hour Jungle tour, which is shorter and calmer. Groups of friends can mix and match — tell us about your group on WhatsApp and we will suggest the best option.

What to Expect on Your Tour

• Arrive at Finca Samudio in Jacó a little before your departure time.
• Your guide matches each rider with a horse and gives a short introduction before setting off.
• Rides move at a comfortable pace that suits the group.
• Wear long pants or comfortable shorts, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen and bring water.

Tour Prices and Durations

The Sunset Beach Ride is 2 hours for $75 per person, the Jungle Horseback Ride is 1 hour for $50 per person, and the seasonal Waterfall Horseback Ride is 2 hours for $75 per person. Prices are in US dollars and shown before you pay.
