What the Sunset Ride Is Like

The tour begins at our base at Finca Samudio, where your guide pairs you with a horse suited to your experience and covers the basics: how to sit, steer and stop. From there the group heads toward Jacó Beach. The ride along the sand is the heart of the tour — open ocean on one side, palm trees and green hills on the other, and the Pacific light turning gold as the afternoon ends.

Beach Scenery

Jacó Beach is a long, gently curving bay on Costa Rica's Central Pacific coast. At low tide the sand is wide and reflective, which creates the mirror-like photos many riders love. The forested headlands at either end of the bay make a dramatic backdrop as the sun drops.

About the Sunset

Because Jacó faces west, the sun sets over the ocean. Exact sunset times shift slightly through the year, so we confirm the departure time for your date. Clouds sometimes cover the sun, particularly between May and November, so we cannot guarantee a visible sunset — but evening light on the beach is beautiful in any season.

What to Bring

• Long pants or comfortable riding shorts and closed-toe shoes
• Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat for the start of the ride
• A phone or camera with a secure strap or pocket
• Drinking water and a light jacket in the rainy season
