Why Choose Horseback Riding on the Beach?
A beach ride feels spacious in a way few other rides do. There are no trees overhead, just sky, sand and ocean. Jacó Beach is long and gently curved, with headlands at either end and green hills behind town, so the views change as you ride. For many guests, it is the most photogenic activity of their trip.
Why Late Afternoon Is the Best Time
Midday sun on the Pacific coast is intense. In the late afternoon the heat eases, the light turns golden and the wet sand reflects the sky. Because Jacó Beach faces west, the sun sets over the ocean. Our Sunset ride departs in the late afternoon so you are on the beach for this moment. Sunset times shift slightly through the year; message us to confirm the departure time for your date.

What to Expect During the Beach Ride
The tour starts at our ranch at Finca Samudio, where your guide matches you with a horse. After a short ride to the beach, the group follows the shoreline with the guide leading the way. Expect a relaxed, scenic pace, time to take in the views and the sunset, and a return to the ranch around dusk. Riding on sand is comfortable for most riders, and the guide stays with the group throughout.
Where the Beach Ride Takes Place
The ride follows Jacó Beach on Costa Rica's Central Pacific coast, in Puntarenas province. Guests staying in Jacó, Playa Herradura and Playa Hermosa can reach our ranch easily. We do not offer beach rides at other beaches.

Tips for Riding on the Beach
- Photos: the best light is usually in the hour before sunset. Keep your phone on a strap or in a zipped pocket.
- Clothing: light long pants or comfortable shorts, and closed-toe shoes — not flip-flops.
- Sun: apply sunscreen before you arrive; the sun is strong even late in the day.
- After dark: bring a light layer for the ride back if you get cold easily.
- Weather: in the green season, cloud can soften the sunset, but the beach is still beautiful.

Beach Etiquette on Horseback
Jacó Beach is shared by surfers, swimmers, families and walkers. Your guide keeps the group at a respectful distance from other beach users and chooses a suitable line along the sand. Follow the guide's lead, keep your horse with the group, and avoid stopping suddenly in busy areas. These simple habits keep the ride relaxed for everyone on the beach.
