Guide to horseback riding on Jaco Beach: what the beach ride is like, tides, timing and the Sunset tour ($75, 2 hours). Book online or on WhatsApp.

Riding a horse along the Pacific is one of the most memorable things to do in Jacó. This page explains what the beach itself is like for riding, the best time of day to go, and which of our tours includes beach time.
Jacó Beach stretches for several kilometres along a wide bay on Costa Rica's Central Pacific coast. The sand is dark grey-brown, the waves are popular with surfers, and green hills rise at both ends. Because the beach is long and open, riders get wide views without crowded stretches for most of the route.

At lower tide the beach becomes wide and firm, and the wet sand reflects the sky — this is when the classic mirror photos happen. At high tide the riding strip is narrower. Our guides plan the route around the conditions of the day.
Midday sun on the open beach is strong. That is why our beach riding happens on the Sunset tour, which leaves in the late afternoon when temperatures drop and the light turns golden.
The Sunset Horseback Riding tour (2 hours, $75) is our beach ride. If you would rather ride in the shade, the Jungle tour (1 hour, $50) follows rainforest trails beside a river that flows toward the ocean.
Jacó Beach is a public beach shared with swimmers, surfers and walkers. Our guides keep the group at a safe distance from people and choose a calm pace near busy areas.
