Why Choose a Guided Horse Tour?
A guided tour removes the guesswork. You don't need to know the trails, the tides or the best place to watch the sunset — the guide does. You also don't need your own horse or equipment knowledge. For visitors, a horse tour is the simplest way to ride safely through unfamiliar terrain while concentrating on the scenery.
A Horse Tour, Step by Step
1. Booking
Reserve online through our secure WeTravel checkout or message us on WhatsApp. Let us know the number of riders and each rider's experience. If you have children in your group, share their ages first.
2. Arrival at Finca Samudio
Arrive a little before your start time. The guide confirms the booking and talks briefly with each rider about experience and comfort.
3. Meeting your horse
Each rider is matched with a horse. The guide helps you mount and gives practical pointers — how to hold the reins, how to stop and how to sit comfortably.
4. The ride
The group sets out with the guide in front. Depending on your tour, you spend about one hour on rainforest trails beside a river, or about two hours on Jacó Beach at sunset or on the seasonal jungle route toward a waterfall.
5. Returning
The tour ends back at the ranch, where you dismount with help if you need it.

What to Expect From the Guide
Your guide leads the route, keeps the pace comfortable for the group and stays with you for the whole tour. Guides know the local trails and conditions; for example, waterfall rides only run when the season and weather are suitable. If anything about the ride makes you uncomfortable, simply tell the guide.
Where the Horse Tours Take Place
Every tour departs from our ranch at Finca Samudio in Jacó, Puntarenas. The Sunset tour heads to Jacó Beach, the Jungle tour follows trails in the forest near town, and the Waterfall tour goes deeper into the jungle. Visitors in Playa Herradura and Playa Hermosa are a short drive away.

Tips Before Your Horse Tour
Wear closed-toe shoes and clothing you can sit in comfortably. Apply sunscreen before you arrive, bring water and, for jungle routes, insect repellent. Leave valuables and large bags at your hotel. If you are nervous, tell the guide — it helps them choose the right horse and pace. To compare tour styles in more depth, read how to book a horseback riding tour and beach vs jungle riding.
